Zabdiel Boylston Adams of Framingham, Massachusetts, served as the regimental surgeon for the 32nd Massachusetts. On July 2, 1863, he established his field hospital behind the shelter provided by the boulders here. He had plenty of work: on July 2, the regiment suffered 79 killed and wounded.
The monument is located on Sickles Avenue, directly across from the Irish Brigade monument.
