1863 Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Monument Replicas
The 17th Maine was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Lieutenant Colonel Charles Benjamin Merrill and has two monuments at Gettysburg. This is the smaller of the two and indicates the regiment’s position on July 3. The other monument is in the Wheatfield, where the regiment fought on July 2, 1863.
The monument is located on Hancock Avenue in front of the Pennsylvania Memorial and was dedicated in 1889.
