1863 Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Monument Replicas
Which Confederates advanced the farthest on July 3, 1863? Virginians say Armistead and his men did. North Carolinians claim it was the Tarheels of the 26th North Carolina, farther south down Cemetery Ridge. Mississippians say members of the 11th Mississippi claimed this honor. This monument, placed here in 1998, indicates the farthest point of their advance during Pickett’s Charge.
The monument is located on Hancock Avenue immediately south of the Bryan barn, and was dedicated in 1998.
